Before I write this update, I would like to thank you for your powerful prayers. In our last update, I mentioned about a refugee, S. who desperately needed a job, because not only must he send money to Africa for his wife, but he also longs to bring his family to Austria. Miraculously he’s got a job and his wife has also had a successful surgery in the capital city of their home country, now she is waiting for the detailed result of her cancer. Praise the Lord for the big progress.
The summer is coming to an end here and as I look back, I’m thankful for all the experiences the Lord granted us. Here are some highlights.
1. For the first time our family took part in our local church’s retreat held in Croatia. Every morning, we had a time of worship and input from the Book of Ephesians. I, Aki was also responsible for the input one morning and it was a big but good challenge for me to do a Bible message all in German in front of native speakers. In the afternoon, we had a time of fellowship at the beach, and we thank God that we could get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ better.
2. We received guests from our church in Japan. On their way to Slovakia, Mr. and Mrs. Sano visited us in Austria and met with our friends here. Though the time was brief, it was a joyful occasion to welcome friends and encourage each other in the Lord.
3. We visited our friends, two families in Germany. They are very special friends for me, as they are the first ones who shared Jesus with me.
We hadn’t seen Alex’s family for 5 years and it was such a refreshing and blessed reunion. Our kids could verbally communicate with each other for the first time, and it was so good to see them having fun together.
In New Zealand in 2003 I spent with Alex only for a couple of days before he headed home to Germany, but I will never forget the time at Burger King at midnight, where Alex and Richard passionately spoke about Jesus – their Jesus has changed my life forever. Whenever I meet them, I am reminded of what they did and the verse, and encouraged to do the same: 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
4. From 20-22 September, Rhema church hosted a family festival followed by a neighborhood festival, where we proclaimed Jesus. The staff team had already gathered and started the preparation on 17 September and it was an intense time in many ways. Some of our kids got health challenges, some of our staff had nightmares that caused sleepless nights. Spiritual battle was evident and we said to ourselves, “this is not a joke nor a game, we’ve got to fight by the strength God gives us”. We were out from the morning to the evening, and gave our very best in the preparation. So much unity was felt in the team despite different backgrounds, cultures, languages, etc. God heard our prayers and the weather held up, though it was badly forecasted.
To the event whose theme was „Jesus sees you“, 80 kids on the 1st day, 90 kids on the 2nd, and 120 kids on the last day showed up, including kids from the church, as well as a number of adults. A church member commented that he had never seen so many people from the neighborhood before.
Among the children are about 15 boys aged 9 to 14 years old with foreign roots who were aggressive and without manners, and they ended up in my small group. Although they were wild and naughty, I could still sense changes God was making in their lives day by day - one boy swayed the body in the rhythm to worship songs and they watched the Bible theater play attentively - as they heard about the Jesus of the Bible. I asked them in the small group, “what do you feel, after you’ve done something bad.” All of them except one said that they feel bad and feel obligated to do something (good deeds) to compensate. I also asked them, “what do you do, when you feel lonely and sad.” Some of them said, “I look for a friend to spend time with.” There we were able to explain the Gospel of Jesus Christ and pray for them. During the neighborhood festival, the Lord Jesus was also powerfully preached. Please pray that the Lord of harvest would bless the seeds that have been sawn.
アップデートを書く前に、皆さんの力強いお祈りにお礼をお伝えします。前回のアップデートで、Sさんという難民の方について触れました。彼は妻のためにアフリカへ仕送りしなければならないだけでなく、家族をオーストリアへ呼び寄せたいと切望しているため、どうしても職に就くことが必要でした。奇跡的に仕事が見つかり、彼の妻も自国の首都で手術を受けられ、今はがんの詳しい結果を待っています。この大きな進展を主に感謝します。
今年の夏も終わりに近づいていますが、振り返ると、感謝でいっぱいです。ハイライトをいくつかご紹介します。
1. 私たち家族は初めて、クロアチアで開催された地元の教会のリトリートに参加しました。毎朝、礼拝とエペソ人への手紙からメッセージがあり、僕も一日メッセージを担当しました。ネイティブスピーカーの前で、すべてドイツ語で聖書のメッセージを伝えるのは、大きな、しかし良いチャレンジとなりました。午後はビーチでフェローシップをし、キリストにある兄弟姉妹たちとより深く知り合えたことを神さまに感謝します。
2. 日本の母教会からゲストをお迎えしました。佐野夫妻はスロバキアへ向かう途中、オーストリアに立ち寄ってくれ、私たちの友人たちと時間を過ごされました。短い時間でしたが、主にある友人たちを歓迎し、互いに励まし合う、喜びに満ちたひとときとなりました。
3. ドイツに住む友人、２家族を訪ねました。彼らは僕にとって特別な友人です。初めてイエス・キリストを分かち合ってくれたのが彼らだからです。
アレックスの家族とは５年ぶりの再会だったので、とてもフレッシュで祝福された再会となりました。子どもたちは初めて言葉でのコミュニケーションが取れ、一緒に楽しく遊んでいる様子に嬉しさが込み上げてきました。
2003年のニュージーランドでアレックスと過ごしたのは、彼がドイツへ帰国する前のほんの数日だけでしたが、真夜中にバーガーキングでアレックスとリチャードがイエス・キリストについて熱く語ってくれた時のことは、決して忘れられません ー 彼らのイエスが人生を永遠に変えてくれました。彼らと再会するたびに、下記の聖句を思い出し、僕も同じようにしたいと励まされます。2テモテへの4:2「みことばを宣べ伝えなさい。時が良くても悪くても、しっかりやりなさい。忍耐の限りを尽くし、絶えず教えながら、責め、戒め、また勧めなさい。」
4. 9月20日から22日にかけて、レマ教会でファミリー・フェスティバルおよび近所の人たちのための（ネイバーフッド）フェスティバルが催され、イエスさまが宣べ伝えられました。スタッフチームはすでに9月17日から集まり、準備を始めていましたが、様々な意味で緊張した時間でした。子どもたちの中には怪我したり入院したりする子もいれば、悪夢に悩まされ睡眠が取れなかったスタッフもいました。霊的な戦いは明らかで、「これはゲームやジョークじゃない。神が与えてくださる力によって戦わなければならない」と皆が改めて思いを固くしました。私たちは朝から晩まで、準備に全力を尽くし、異なる背景、文化、言語などにもかかわらず、スタッフチームは強い一致で結ばれていました。主は私たちの祈りを聞いてくださり、予報は悪かった天候も持ちこたえてくれました。
「イエスはあなたを見守っておられる」というテーマで行ったそのイベントには、初日80人、2日目90人、最終日120人の子どもたち（教会の子どもたちも含む）＋多くの大人が参加してくれました。ある教会員は「こんなにたくさんの近所の人を見たのは初めてだ」と驚いた様子。
子どもたちの中には、外国にルーツを持つ9〜14歳の攻撃的で行儀の悪い男の子が15人ほどいて、僕のスモールグループに落ち着くことになりました。彼らは乱暴でいたずら好きでしたが、聖書のイエスについて学ぶ中で、主が彼らの人生に日々変化をもたらしてくださっているのが分かりました。賛美の歌に合わせてリズムを取ったり、聖書の劇を真剣に観たりと。僕はスモールグループで彼らに「何か悪いことをした後、どんな気持ちになる？」と尋ねました。一人を除いて全員が、「後悔の気持ちがなり、何か（良い行い）で埋め合わせをしなくてはいけないと感じる」と答えました。また、「寂しくて悲しい時はどうしてる？」と尋ねると、何人かは「一緒に時間を過ごせる友達を探す」と答えました。そこで私たちはイエスの福音を伝え、彼らのために祈ることができました。ネイバーフッド・フェスティバルでもイエス・キリストが力強く宣べ伝えられました。蒔かれた種を収穫の主が祝福してくださるよう、お祈りください。
