Next month marks our 5th year in Austria. As I look back, I am filled with awe for the One who gives us breath (Isaiah 42:5). Without His mercy and grace, we can’t even live. Despite a number of challenges that were easily beyond our capacity and limit, we still find ourselves standing on our feet on the field – that’s a miracle to me and a testimony of God’s goodness and of power of your prayers.

Recently, we went to meet our friends from Indonesia visiting Vienna on their 10th wedding anniversary trip. The couple, Caro and Law are our longtime friends, and Caro was one of the few people who helped and supported Sachi, when she first came to explore Christianity in Seattle, America. Befriending them at school, Sachi gradually noticed that there was something in them that she didn’t have – she later discovered that it was Jesus in their lives. Sachi was overwhelmed by their kindness, love, and joy, which overcame language and cultural barriers, and that experience was a key for her to wanting to seek Jesus. Through Indonesian believers like Caro, Sachi was able to join God’s family.

I too came to know the Lord through two Germans who boldly but also kindly shared Jesus with me in New Zealand. Along the way in my faith journey, many brothers and sisters have helped and encouraged me - I am endlessly thankful. Without them, I can say with 120% confidence, I wouldn’t be here now. Pastor Phil Godsiff recalls the time in 2003 or 2004, when I came to the youth service he was preaching at (From 22:30/26:32 in the video). If you have time, listening to the whole sermon would encourage, inspire and challenge you in the Lord. Through such people, I too could join God’s family.

Reaching out to a stranger or a person you don’t yet know well can be a scary experience, it can require your courage, but we can’t underestimate the power of one (little and insignificantly looking) invitation, as Phil preaches. Our God is a God of relationship; He often works and reveals His glory through your relationship with other people.

In October our InterK ministry team, in cooperation with Rhema church, began a 6 week-long seminar named “Joining the Family”. We first started to plan and prepare for this seminar two years ago, and some of our team members have been working very hard on this project, which is about learning how to welcome people with different cultural and religious backgrounds at church and invite them to God’s family through Christ (or more precisely, how to be family with them). The weekly seminar is now attended by many in person or online, and we are learning together what it means to be God’s family as Jesus desires and expects of us.

In this Christmas season, will you be courageous to reach out to a non-believing person? He or she might also be waiting to join God’s Family.

„He (Christ) came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.“ Ephesians 2:17-21

来月でオーストリアに来て丸5年目になります。振り返ると、主への感謝と畏敬の思いでいっぱいになります。人間に息を与えるお方（イザヤ書42章5節）、神のあわれみと恵みがなければ、私たちは生きることさえできません。私たち夫婦の能力や限界をはるかに超える数々の困難にも関わらず、それでもなお宣教地に立っていること自体、僕にとっては奇跡であり、神の慈しみと皆さんの祈りの力の証しです。

最近、結婚10周年記念旅行でウィーンを訪問していたインドネシアの友人夫婦に会ってきました。キャロとローは長年の友人です。サチがアメリカのシアトルに留学中、妻は学校でキャロや他インドネシア人留学生たちと友だちになりました。彼らと親しくなるうちに、妻は彼らの中に自分にはない何かがあることを徐々に感じ始めたそうです。のちに、それは彼らの人生におられるイエスさまだと気づきました。サチは、言語や文化の壁をものともしない彼らの優しさ、愛、そして喜びに圧倒され、それがイエスさまを求めたいと思うようになるきっかけになりました。キャロたちのようなインドネシア人クリスチャンを通して、妻は神の家族に加わることができました。

僕もニュージーランドで、大胆かつ親切にイエス・キリストを伝えてくれた二人のドイツ人を通して、主を知るようになりました。信仰の旅路にあって、多くの人々に助けられ、励まされてきました。彼らがいなければ、今僕はここにいないと120%の自信を持って言えます。フィル・ゴッドシッフ牧師は、2003年か2004年に、彼がメッセージをしていたユース礼拝に僕が来た時のことを回想しています（英語ですが、よろしければ、動画の22:30/26:32からです。自動翻訳機能も利用できます。）お時間あれば、メッセージ全部を聞くと主にあってとても励まされ、刺激され、チャレンジを受けます。このような人々を通して、僕も神の家族に加わることができました。

よく知らない人にアプローチするのはこわい経験かもしれませんし、勇気がいりますが、フィルが語るように、the power of one invitation /たった一つの（小さくて取るに足らないように見える）招待・誘いの力を過小評価してはいけません。私たちの神は関係の神です。主はしばしば、あなたの他の人との関係を通して働き、ご自身の栄光を現されます。

10月、私たちのインターKミニストリーチームは、レマ教会と協力して、「Joining the Family/家族に加わる」という6週間のセミナーを始めました。このセミナーの企画と準備は2年前に始まり、チームメンバーの何人かがこのプロジェクトに一所懸命取り組んできました。このセミナーは、異なる文化的、宗教的背景を持つ人々を教会にどのように歓迎し、「キリストにある神の家族」に加わるよう招くか（より正確には、どのように彼らと家族になるか）を学ぶことを目的としています。毎週開催されるこのセミナーには、現在、多くの人が対面またはオンラインで参加してくださっており、イエスさまが私たちに望み、期待しておられる『神の家族』となるとはどういうことかを共に学んでいます。

このクリスマスシーズンに、あなたも少し勇気を出してノンクリスチャンの方を教会に誘ってみませんか？もしかしたら、彼らも主にある神の家族に加わることをずっと待っているかもしれません。

「また、キリストは来て、遠くにいたあなたがたに平和を、また近くにいた人々にも平和を、福音として伝えられました。このキリストを通して、私たち二つのものが、一つの御霊によって御父に近づくことができるのです。こういうわけで、あなたがたは、もはや他国人でも寄留者でもなく、聖徒たちと同じ国の民であり、神の家族なのです。使徒たちや預言者たちという土台の上に建てられていて、キリスト・イエスご自身がその要の石です。」エペソ 2:17-20
